Pope Alexander VIII dies. Born Pietro Vito Ottoboni in 1610, Pope Alexander VIII was almost 79 when he became pope, a very old age in any era, and only lived 16 months.

Not much happened during his papacy except that the papal treasuries were exhausted due to his generous nature. The problem was that Pope Alexander VIII reduced the taxes on people living in the papal states while lavishing riches and offices on relatives.
