Historian of religion, theologian, and philosopher Ernst Troeltsch dies in Berlin, Germany.

Ernst Troeltsch was a historian of Christian religion and culture who argued that cultural values are dependent upon historical and cultural circumstances - thus, there are no absolute values which transcend history. This also means that religions, including Christianity, do not transmit such absolute values - an idea which was shocking to many devout Christians.
