Jerry Falwell's National Liberty Journal newspaper issues a "parental alert" which warned that Tinky Winky, a character on the children's show "Teletubbies," might be gay.

In an article entitled Parents Alert: Tinky Winky Comes Out of the Closet, Jerry Falwell writes:

"He is purple - the gay-pride color; and his antenna is shaped like a triangle - the gay-pride symbol."

Falwell further says that any "subtle depictions" of homosexuality are deliberate and will later issue a statement saying:

"As a Christian I feel that role modeling the gay lifestyle is damaging to the moral lives of children."
