A 5-year-old boy is installed as the 14th Dalai Lama. Born Lhamo Döndrub in 1935, he takes the religious name Tenzin Gyatso and assumes control over the government of Tibet. According to Tibetan Buddhist leaders, the boy was born at the exact moment that the 13th Dalai Lama died.
