The Communist Party of Germany (KPD) holds its founding congress. Although the KPD becomes one of the primary targets for the Nazi Party, they nevertheless play an important role in the Nazi seizure of power. Communists believe that fascist groups like the NSDAP are a last gasp of capitalism before the communist revolution can begin; as a consequence, the KPD will be advised by communist leaders in Moscow not to work with the SPD and other moderate German political parties to suppress and defeat Nazism.

Whether such an alliance would have succeeded is unknown, but the communists refusal to even try helps guarantee their own destruction.
