Smith v. Goguen: In Leominster, Massachusetts, two police officers spot a teenager wearing a small American flag on the seat of his pants. The officers later swear out a complaint against Goguen for violating a state law against treating the flag "contemptuously." Goguen will be convicted, but his appeals go all the way to the Supreme Court.
