Freethinker Joseph Martin McCabe is born in England. He will enter the Franciscan order at the age of 15 and is ordained a Roman Catholic priest at the age of 27. After six years, however, he leaves the priesthood after losing his faith. He then goes on to become a major writer and speaker on freethought, atheism, and church/state separation.

Over the years, he will be a fierce opponent of Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. He will write a large number of freethought and anti-clerical books, making him a thorn in the side of the Church.
