When Cossack and Muscovite armies attack Lublin, they burn down the entire Jewish quarter of the city. It's estimated that at least 2,000 Jews die in the fire.

Survivors begin renting houses and buying shops in the Christian areas of Lublin, a development which creates a strong backlash against the Jews. Nevertheless, a Jewish community remains and rebuilds the Jewish quarter.
